- Interrogatory Configuration Is Key To Fast And Value
- Brian, I would add that a major driver of both speed (implementation, receipt of value) and to the extent of value created, is what I call interrogatory configuration. This is software that is used during initial and ongoing configuration to interact directly with the customer via a series of questions that focus on the business processes and results for which the software is being implemented and, through the customer's answers, configures the software dynamically. Software does need a certain underlying architecture for this to work completely, and it takes real cleverness by the vendor to understand which questions and their range of valid answers, not to mention which collection of questions and their interrelated answers, produce value-laden results (i.e. which combinations of good practice produce those results). But where this has been done -- and Turbo Tax is a modest example of same that's not under seven layers of NDA -- the results are amazing.
