- This is exactly what we shouldn't do!
-
I believe that social media is going to change the world, make it a better place, make it a world we all enjoy living in. In order for this to become a reality we should not and CANNOT do what you are advocating!
Social media is bringing the following benefits to society, and I don't see how this is bad and why we should be looking for ways to "mitigate the collision"
- People have to be accountable for their actions and their words, not hide behind pseudo accounts
- People need to be accepting of each other, not judgmental since now everyone's faults (including yours) are visible to all your social circles
A few examples of these points are:
Accountability - If you are embarrassed or worried about your boss seeing pictures of you hugging a toilet bowl every Sunday morning; maybe you should reconsider your choices every Saturday night. Or find a boss who only judges you on your actions from Monday to Friday and then will hold your hair back when you are still hugging the toilet Monday morning.
Accepting - When recruiters/headhunters/prospective employers are searching you on Facebook, are you really going to be happy working for a company who doesn't appreciate your individual personality? Fitting into "the culture" is probability the biggest influence on job satisfaction. If they don't like who you are on Facebook, it?s probably better off you don't work there anyways.
Over time social media will make our lives transparent and force us to judge each other on the criteria that are important.
?I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character? ? Martin Luther King, Jr
And nor should your boss judge you for what you do outside of work (unless it is affecting your work!) and only judge you on what is relevant to your work. - Posted by: stevepartridge Posted on: 12/27/08 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
