it never gets better either...

One of my feeds has 0 subscribers and 760 reach.
Another has 1300+ subscribers and 17 reach. -- Both of
those stats make me sad. Sometimes I'll have huge
drops (and sink into blog-related depression) in my
subscribers for no reason and then all of a sudden a
huge gain (which makes me happy)... Then, it just
levels out.

I think something is flawed.

I don't think they'll ever fix it.

What I've learned to do is not pay attention to the
feed stats that much otherwise it discourages me.
Blogging more than once a day tends to increase reach
by a lot and subscribers by a little.
