Filling time with white cats
Even though it's a humor book, let me just ponder its suggestion that
when Seinfeld and Gates visited that suburban family, we were seeing
100% solid street. You know what I'm saying?

As I suggested in the talkbacks to the earlier post, Apple has not, to
my mind, made a serious enterprise play this decade. I think they aim
the XServe for companies' use as a departmental server, such as the
editing bay for a video production company or a poor man's super-
computer for a research lab. It seems to me that it could compete with
Microsoft SBS, but I don't see any evidence of any serious effort there,
either. I don't think they see a way to break even and profit quickly
enough. Isn't there some obligatory Lao Tzu thing about attacking the
enemy at a weak point?

I also think that if they wanted to compete in the enterprise, they
would have picked up Sun. Either they didn't think about it or didn't
see a quick enough upside. They are clearly committed to being a
consumer electronics company. Apple dumb or Apple smart. Take
your pick.

Thanks for the tip regarding Angry Mac Bastards. I'll be giving them a
listen shortly.
