Considering....
For a long time the "powers that be" have wanted to get more and more out of (less and less) people (especially in IT, but in general as well) it is hardly surprising that today's employees are a pretty messed up bunch.

Maybe things will change and sanity will prevail where people will still reward "the best" but accept "the rest" as valuable anyway. What is the point of telling society that they have to be "the best" all the time, and that "you're not going to be useful unless you go to university and get a flock of degrees?"

Putting continuing and greater pressures on people is going to wreck them. A matter of when, not if.
