The fault lies with MS and Driver manufacturers
We don't criticize macs because they are a package deal, with a price premium to match so they generally work just fine. We don't call for witch hunts of Linux distro's because we expect to have problems and tweaks with Linux, plus it's free, hard to ***** about free. For many people XP just worked. Hell, got a printer from the Paleolithic age, there was probably an XP driver for it.

People got used to that stability and affordability. So when MS came out with an OS that had Mac like prices and Linux like problems people felt cheated. MS should have lowered the prices, hammered the OEM's to make sure that Vista capable machines were actually "capable" and put the manufacturers under the heat lamps to make sure they weren't releasing buggy-ass drivers.

I also wonder what the hardware specs were for the "testers" who had such positive feedback, I'd bet a kidney they didn't have the minimum required that most people ended up with.

Oh and how bout different versions based on common sense and not uh, whatever the hell craziness they actually came up with to base their Vista versions and upgrade paths on(my theory, dartboard from 10 paces).

Vista was a failure because it failed not because Win7 succeeded
