i do like the ease of use that the cloud gives me, also the ability to access it anywhere (ie Gmail), but personally I'd rather have a flashdrive (besides Gmail, I avoid the cloud like the plague, but maybe I'm just a security/privacy freak =p)

it is very well possible, but personally, I've never had such a problem. Provided you follow safe internet practices and don't do anything to open your computer up to the rest of the world (turning the firewall off, not running anti-virus, etc), there will be almost no chance of getting a flashdrive infected. even at public buildings like schools and libraries, they are generally more secure than a home pc (as you said in this post).
