Ahh I see your point and thought it through. IMHO the best headphones I've ever had are those which came as standard with my BlackBerry. Investing in expensive headphones is (again IMHO) pointless.
Having beefy speakers is a good social tool; sticking them by your door plugged in, blasting out tunes while everyone cooks dinner, showers and gets ready to go out - brings the halls together in social harmony.
