$1,600 phones and what they represent
"The 8800 is not only ?1,079 ($1,600), but it?s
an abomination of a device. You would expect
something to cost this much to boast a killer
feature."

In such a case, one is not so much paying for
the phone as for what a $1,600 phone
represents--the indication that the person who
bought it is capable of paying $1,600 for a
mobile phone. Even the page showing the phone
describes this as an "exquisite lifestyle
statement"--pretty much admitting that the only
reason to pay this much for a phone is to show
that you're capable of paying this much for a
phone. That is the closest thing this device
has, and will likely ever have, to a "killer
feature", and that is the only reason I can
currently think of that anyone would purchase
it, as I couldn't spot a single distinguishing
feature on this phone that wouldn't be
available on a phone that costs 1/4 the price.
