Long time web developer here. So far, IE 8 looks like it is actually adhering to web standards better than former versions. If sites were written to work in IE's quirks mode, shame on them. Use Firefox for development testing, and use appropriate tags to ensure IE doesn't load the page in quirks mode.

Don't spank MS for finally fixing their browser to work the way it should. "Compatibility" mode only rebreaks what was finally fixed. Yup, it ain't perfect, but if MS keeps making changes like this, they may finally stop being the P.I.T.A. they have been to web developers. Maybe it can even happen before everyone is using Firefox.
