Microsoft is going to shoot itself in the foot on this one.

When browsers and websites across the world are compatible (more or less) who is going to want a browser that breaks the system.

I can't even say that Microsoft is trying their old embrace and extend tactic again. For that, IE 8 would have to at least be as good as the other browsers. What I can say is that there's no help for it. IE 8 is broken to start with and on the same path to infamy as Vista. Well it's not literally broken, but you get my point. If everyone's doing 70 MPH, then deliberately going 85 or even 55 just creates a problem for everyone else on the road with you. Saying you're following the law by doing 55 doesn't excuse the problems you're creating. (Are you Microsoft salesboys paying attention. I hope not. I'd really like to see Microsoft bite the dust.)

While I'm at it, I too cast my vote for Firefox and its marvelous plug-ins.
