Depends on what you mean by "internet". Will there always be a network linking huge numbers of people together? I believe so and security will always be an issue and a challenge to meet.

If you mean a network of freely available and academic information, it is already dying. Advertising and e-commerce have all but eliminated a free exchange of information amount a network of machines and people. You can get the information but you have to pay for it. Most of the time it is cheaper to buy a book with what you want to learn.

It is easier and cheaper to find porn and stupid information than something intelligent on the web. Basically the internet has become another entertainment outlet. It is great for listening to music and watching movies/television but just like most of the things on terrestrial television, it is pretty much useless for anything other than entertainment.
