Not a gold rush
An interesting article, if only for it being
the first intellectual and considered piece on
the demise of (at least some) Web 2.0.

I share a view that a lot of Web 2.0 is pure
folly - an opportunity for a developer to show
off their lateral thinking and VC partners to
show how tech savvy they are. There is
frequently little thought as to how the idea
enhances or improves anyones life, be that
social or business.

The big difference between all this and the
gold rush however is that gold has always had a
value and always will. The Dot Com boom and
Web 2.0 has seen people spending big money
digging up ANYTHING, quite unsure of whether
what they mined was worth anything; conning the
world into believing that the rules had changed
and that dirt had the potential to be as
valuable as gold.

Old Economy Rules always come round again to
help revalue what it is we are dealing with
though and this is exactly what the current
economic crises is achieving.
