Largely irrelevant post due to SharePoint 14 and Office 14
This post is largely irrelevant due to the upcoming social enterprise features in SharePoint 14 and Office 14. It is a shame the post was not written in the context of what should come and what is coming as social media is still only around 2-3 years young in the mainstream world.

In addition, many companies simply roll out SharePoint and do not 1. Determine what purpose it will play in the organisation, 2. Plan and design around this purpose. This results in a relatively hap hazard implementation resulting in poor user behaviour. Therefore I don't know why people continue to blame tools, products and technnology when the majority of times it is simply lazy implementation.

There is also no mention of Groove which many large companies are using, as well as document management which is being used by large legal firms and government organisations and Windows Workflow with Infopath. Again it appears the post has focused on very lazy executions and not on the successful, well thought out ones?

Having said this, yes there are issues with SharePoint but it is hardly a 3rd, 4th or 5th generation product and social enterprise applications is such a new concept. But, Microsoft foresaw this coming change around social media and how it will impact the enterprise and I think people will be very surprised how well and different Office 14 will exploit this to the benefit of users and productivity.
