Irrespective of where you stand regarding the viability of touch on a PC, the novelty factor alone will serve as an additional driver to the positive publicity Win7 has already garnered. I think if you read a lot of non-technical consumer reviews six months down the track from now, you'll see several people conceding that touch technology was not all it was cracked up to be, but by then it would be too late. MS would already have the cash in the bank and hats off to them. Something like this was much needed after primarily bad publicity murdered Vista. Come to think of it, I reckon touch is more like one of those 'keeping up with the Joneses' forms of technology. That is; even users conceding that touch is not for them will just somehow still want it right through Win7's product lifecycle. After all; even if you don't use it, there's a lot of pride in saying that your PC can do it! I fell into the same trap by installing a lot of the Compiz eye candy on my Ubuntu box when in fact I only needed a few features for better usability. It's sorta like have 300kph on your speedo as you drive around town at 1/6 that speed...
