I see this going the way of the razor blade
Single blade razors worked well. Then came the 2 blade razors and yeah, I thought that was an improvement. Then came the 3 blade razors and I started joking about how soon they would come out with 5 blade razors. Turns out it wasn't such a joke. Crazy.

Personally, I think Asus has it right. Do a better job of regulating the power on one video card. I'm not sure there is a mobile implementation of their EPU Six Engine system but I don't see why one couldn't be made. You could also borrow an idea from the automobile industry and start turning off stream processors when they aren't needed.
