On the price issue, so many people are missing the point. I guess you've lived with a subscription based model so long that you forget the real cost of ownership.
You buy a cell phone, maybe get it for "free." Great deal! Then you pay and extra $10-$20/month for texting and maybe more for internet access. A year of this, and your device has now cost you $120-$240. And you do this year after year.
Amazon includes 3-G for free. that's a big part of the value/cost of this device.
As for the comparisons with netbooks, it's not a general purpose device, it's an optimized e-book reader. Your netbook does a bunch of things poorly. If you want to read books on an awkward, heavy device that drains its batteries in a few hours, be my guest. The models of Kindle are light enough to take anywhere. The new DX is big, so for most people, the K2 is a more portable and cost effective version. But the DX can view full pages, and it's really targeted at the market that needs that.
