I hate to say this, but Apple should have known
This was not going to work correctly. Send a new iPod before they got the broken one back? Heck no!
No company does that, Gateway wouldn't do it when the key on my keyboard broke and I told them "Hey, I can send in the shell, and just reactivate Windows by putting my hard drive into the new computer!"
Nope, wouldn't do that. They wanted to have the shell in hand with the original hard drive in it for some reason before they would fix it, and ended up just sticking a new keyboard on the old shell..... which wasted about 2 weeks of my flipping time.
