Posting to an open source forum

This is the President of the United States. The telephone operators at the White House's best known number have been instructed to confirm for anyone who calls that this post is not a hoax.

Currently our missile defenses rely on open source software. An attack from Iran on the US or one of its allies may be imminent. We have found a software problem which outr staff in house are unable to solve.

We are therefore putting the issue on the web for comment. Persons from Iran hostile to the United States are requested not to respond misleadingly.

If you do not have the solution but do have the names and telephone number of persons likely to know the answer to our problem, please communicate these to the White House operator designated to take such calls. You will be transferred when you explain your purpose.

The next section of this post is an explanation of the problem by an expert. Because it includes strong hints about missile guidance systems, reading this post past in this point is need-to-know only.

People who attempt to supply misleading answers in response will be identified and shot.
