The first wireless power systems will be a desk with a spot marked where
you can set down a laptop or cell phone or PDA, that can control the power source to produce the amount needed needed.

I suppose in the future, a device could announce that it needed power, and a power supply mounted on the ceiling could aim power at the device requesting power. But, you can not just "broadcast" power like a WiFi signal. It would need to be aimed, and supplied on request.
