Range improvement can be impressive
I share my internet access with my girlfriend who lives in the same apartment building three floors above me. Those are three thick, reinforced concrete floors. With my G router, her reception was sporadic, and limited to only parts of her apartment. Since I moved to pre-N, she gets a solid signal all over her apartment. I have not counted the bars since she no longer complains. Now she can talk on Skype for hours over my ADSL connection. Of course, it is a WPA protected network.
