Best for the purpose
I prefer Nikon DSLRs for their lens compatibility.

Canon point and shoots always seem to hit the sweet spot for me.

I've a Casio for its innovative high speed (1000 fps) capability -- which could actually become a useful tool with more resolution in future models! Although I'd have a Photron if I could afford one.

My first digital camera was a Kodak as it was the first 3+ Mpixel under $500 that could sync with external studio flash.
