For the more budget minded photographer
In most cases, I use a simpler 7 megapixel or less camera and take many pictures with overlaps. Then I use Autostitch, the free version to stitch them together. Neat thing about Autostitch is that you can not only create a row of pictures, but several rows of pictures and it will figure all of them out and stitch them together.

Oh, and Autostitch is free.
