Tissue Rejection Kills All Projects
Michael, I enjoyed Jill's post too, a Tweeted that if you erased all references to "Social" and simply left it saying "CRM", you'd still have a valid story.

I think the Social part actually had little to do with it. In the end, the culture rejected the thesis. With neither grass roots support nor strong top down leadership (everyone was begging everyone else to go along, but I heard little discussion of leadership), any project is doomed to fail.

Social CRM requires a serious commitment like almost anything with a great ROI. If it was easy and automatic, we'd already all be doing it.

I know you must have seen many similar cases in other Enterprise projects. The symptoms are the same. Ignore the slick consultants and snake oil. Focus on the core values. Understand what your customers want and need. And then make sure the project has was it takes to actually get done without letting the passive resistance kill it.

Cheers,

BW
