Verrry interesting. So refreshing. No wonder he became Senior Vice President of International and Technology.

His point is so true: If a company?s executives are involved in determining the "IT agenda," which I take to mean ?what activities or processes must be improved and in what way could IT facilitate this,? then IT is aligned with the company?s objectives. If not, it?s because of upper management mismanagement.

Wow. So few senior, executive, or C-level executives would admit that.

Generally speaking, every one would agree that if you don?t tell someone what make you happy or what you want, you?re not likely to get it. In fact, if you got it, it would be magic or sheer luck. Why should people think it would be any different for IT initiatives? However, if such communication occurred, but the parties misinterpreted things, that?s a different issue.

I think it?s great that he had the authority to turn away projects or initiatives where the users or affected parties where not actively or meaningfully engaged in such initiatives. Perhaps other CIOs don?t feel they have the power to turn away or kill projects that lack active engagement with their internal customers.

Thanks Michael for a great interview.
