IT needs a new kind of leader
Typically, IT leaders are technologists who simply got promoted into management positions. They are no better at being businesspeople than the typical businessperson is at being a technologist. What is necessary to bridge the gap is a new kind of IT management that excels in both areas and can hire the correct people to get the right job done right.

IT workers know they provide value, but they are unable to express that value in a way that makes sense to management. Management walks away with the wrong impression that IT is a commodity service ("If I don't understand them and they don't understand me, hell, I'll just go with whoever is cheapest. Email is email, right?").

CIOs and CTOs have to step up to both deliver and demonstrate value.
