RE: 5 reasons to kill IT projects
Many of the hugely funded IT projects I have seen are for "automation". The definition of "automation" is "getting someone else to do YOUR job". For example, a really simple purchasing system is replaced with a huge database. Purchasing an item, which used to take a day to approve and purchase now takes two weeks, but it looks cool on the computer! IT gets more people in their department, and engineering has to do Purchasing's job. This leads to a cascade failure, and the business fails.

Before allowing a penny for an IT project, always ask: "Can we get the same benefit by hiring four temp clerks to do the same work?"

I bet that in over 80% of IT projects the answer would be "Yes!"
