doomed from the start?
I doubt ALF ever had a chance to make a go at it. I would think as part of Freightliner, their staff would be focused on fire appartus, and using FL's IT staff as more or less stated in the article. So when they were cut loose, where was the IT experience? The management may have known what they wanted, but did they have enough IT experience to communicate it to IBM? They knew fire trucks. NOT IT. Remember this isn't a big company. I doubt there's more than 200 people from janitor to CEO including production. And I'm sure after a couple of years under FL they were running LEAN before being cut loose. I bet IBM knew from the beginning ALF was doomed.
