- I think China will ultimately be very successful in airliners
-
.
To be sure, Chinese companies have made some big errors this year: Lead in children's toys, tainted pet food ingredients, and releasing pre-production automobiles for safety testing that kill all of the passengers in ordinary crashes. But, these errors can be corrected!
Unless you've been living in a cave for the last 10 years, you know that China has very quickly become the preferred provider of world class high tech and other manufactured goods and have proven engineering skills. They now have a manned space program. Impressed yet? China has 1.3 BILLION people, more than four (4) times the size of the United States. They have massive quantities of cheap labor. They have many natural advantages and leverage.
Now, the major airlines are essentially not going to buy any Chinese airliners unless they have been proven to be very very reliable. And, such reliability records can only be achieved if airlines buy and use the airliners. But, I think some will be bought by some smaller airlines and the Chinese will deliver great reliability (eventually at least). At that point, the Chinese will have such a price advantage over Boeing and AirBus that they could very quickly dominate segments of that business, just like they have so many others.
Globalization and the dismantling of manufacturing in the United States and other economies brings great riches to the movers and shakers on the up side . . . and great pain on the down side. Only then will those people feel what the middle class has been feeling for years now. This is not much of a consolation, but at least we will be re-united and on the same side again.
As the evil Emperor Palpatine in "Star Wars" said: "Young fool. Only now, at the end, do you understand."
