Thanks for the response
Hmm. Well, I agree about Oracle, more or less, although I am not sure that their case studies are any worse than the marketing drivel produced by any other major software company.

Regarding the project, I'm still not sure--given the failure rate of even more conventional projects, how exactly could one do anything at all about the ERP system without "taking risks with employee paychecks"? Most of the responses I have seen to Sannier's methodology seems to revolve, as yours does Michael, around an unspoken assumption that a slower, more methodical approach is somehow less risky with these projects. But I question that assumption, and I was imagining someone so familiar with the failures of those conventional projects might share some of that skepticism... after all, we know there are plenty of more conventionally led projects which result in messed up paychecks, hijacked or lost data, or any other number of equally negative outcomes.

So tell me, other than just by appearance, how can we really reliably say that this 'agile' approach is any less responsible? Would 5 years of paycheck problems, even if possibly less extreme or widespread (although there's hardly any guarantee of that), somehow really be better?

I can't say that this "agile" approach is really better, but I think by the same token it's hard to reliably say that it's worse.
