what took them so long?
Don't know if these APC timers work like
the Japanese timers I found so useful in
the past.

When I was living in the Far East, Japanese
countdown/countup timers were readily available which could control things like window air conditioners (or a surge strip).

They had a dial which one could just turn to set the number of hours or fractions of hours (up to 24) that the device plugged into the timer's outlet connector could run. Pretty handy. Several of the timers were made by Toshiba.

In the US, I couldn't find such timers. The
American timers were either set for specific times of the day to turn on or off, some even with weekday and weekend programming.

I keep forgetting to look for the Japanese timers when I go overseas, so I can bring back
a dozen.
