In my 1975 era "all electric home," I run a refrigerator 24hrs/day; my heat pump runs at all hours day and night when summer or winter are at their worst. These are not variables that allow much control, i.e., there are only so many degrees of temperature differential that one can tolerate without spoiling food or suffering from sweltering or freezing temps.
I have insulated and sealed and installed thermally efficient windows and otherwise attempted to conserve on energy use, but my monthly electricity bill now exceeds $400.
