I like the Cash for Clunkers program
1. It will reduce tail pipe emissions. By a very small amount, but a reduction all the same. The new cars are cleaner.
2. It will reduce the amount of oil consumed for transportation. Again, by a minuscule amount, but a reduction none the less.
3. It works very quickly. People are spending money this week and not 2 years down the road. Fixing a bridge can take over a year of planning and bidding before any construction work begins.
4. It is very tiny in the overall scheme of the $2+T federal budget.
5. Psychologically uplifting. Consumer sentiment is a monstrous driver of our economy.
