What is a "kilo(gram)"?
The SI unit for weight is the gram. The SI system also specifies prefixes for certain quantities, the prefix "kilo" means 1,000.

Using kilo on its own is meaningless, so in the context of the article, either "per kilogram" or "per one thousand grams" is appropriate.

When used with a number, the units can be abbreviated so either "per kilogram" or "per 1,000g".
