"Going under" doesn't imply the companies cease to exist; rather, they are legally allowed to restructure themselves in order to come back as much leaner and competitive entities. The Detroit automakers are saddled with an enormous union debt. Free them of that, and they will do fine.

But of course the Messiah-elect and the Democrat majorities draw their strength from unions and have been hostile to big corporations for years. I'd see some sort of union bailout in the cards, exactly what shouldn't happen.
