60 Minutes?
Is this topic being triggered by the report on 60 Minutes yesterday (11/09)? Steve Kroft followed some materials from a "green" recycler in Denver. Boxes full of monitors were loaded on a container, which they tracked to Victoria Harbor, Hong Kong. In HK, they were piled into a junkyard. According to the article (and to the Basel Action Network representative who was their guide), the transport out of the US, the import into HK and the storage were all illegal. They later found a town where unskilled and unprotected workers stripped monitors, PCs and phones to recover the precious metals. Their incidence of skin lesions, respiratory ailments and low birth rate/birth defects was way higher than normal.
