Just a few thoughts:

No, we cannot drill our way out of the current situation, but we can drill to give us the time to make a switch to other energy sources. Besides, we will still need oil for many years for its many non-fuel related uses.

Nuclear will peak in a few years? We are running out of fuel? Give me a break. Permits for new uranium mines have risen tremendously over the last few years. We have barely tapped the available sources both in the US and around the world. There is also breeder technology, not to mention the over 50 tons of weapons grade plutonium stockpiled in the US alone. While this is not an unlimited supply, it will certainly buy us the time for newer technologies to mature, namely fusion power.

While I am all for developing alternative energy sources, and pursuing conservation where practical, we will still need to increase our electrical generating capacity quickly, and that means using all of our resources, even those that are just short term solutions.
