Answer is simple Harry...

1. We have over fished many of the salmon populations.

2. Due to (although this year seems to be a turn around) several dry seasons many salmon spawning sites were in accessible to the salmon during their runs... this led to a diminished population of salmon.

3. Poaching and catching salmon below legal size limits is another negative impact humans have had on the salmon population.

In a nut shell we the most "intelligent" species on the planet have managed to make a mess of things by FAILING to abide by the dictum of being caretakers of the land and resources. Now, admit the hippies had it right as did the Native Americans. The greedy white man has really screwed the pooch and now it's coming back in spades. devil

PS: I am a white guy that gets it and has gotten it for some time.
