There are quite a few misconceptions regarding the Portuguese Economy that must be corrected. The information that you have is about 30 years out of date.

Chief export: Machines and transport equipment, Chemicals, Textile, Wood/paper products
Agriculture: makes up less than 5% of GDP
Fertilizers and other agricultural Chemicals: Are over-utilized in Portugal which have attracted many environmental groups to protest on the use of agricultural chemicals.
Auto Sector: Some of Europe's Largest Car and Truck Plants are located in Portugal.
An added note, the Service Sector Comprises over 60 % of the GDP
