Preventive measures and mitigation
It's fairly inexpensive for someone to have a venting system installed in a house as it's being built. This is highly recommended if the house has a basement and is in a radon-prone area. Aftermarket options are available, but are much more expensive to have installed since bare walls, etc, are not accessible.

The system basically works just like a bathroom vent. The main difference is the type of fan used and the location of the intake (floor level in a pit).
