Power companies
better get out of their fossil fuel mindset. This may actually have nothing to do with global warming but be another archaic business model (think RIAA) that is going to get ripped to shreds by technological innovation. Newer cheaper and more efficient solar cells, tidal generators, solar towers, improved wind generators, geothermal, and a vast amount of other technology coming down will put huge amounts of pressure on these old businesses used to being the only power source.

The fuel for these alternate sources are free (wind, light, water, and geothermal) and the technology gains are bringing the costs of deployment down were as fossil fuel costs are going up. More homes and businesses are starting to invest in their own power sources become less dependent on a central power company.

They had better be investing in R&D right now if they still want to be competitive in 20 years.
