It's like research in advertising - you'll never hear the results from a study commissioned by some group when they don't support that group's agenda. It's not the way it should be, but it's the way it is.

That said, to answer your question, "is science just another opinion?" I would say yes.

To say otherwise would be to assume that every scientist is completely honest, never influenced by their personal beliefs, and never makes a mistake (at least that aren't caught before publishing their results).

One need only look at items like the global cooling scare of the '70s or the claim of cold fusion to see that assumption is not valid.

Politicians and companies may pick and choose what science they believe (or publicly claim to believe), but that doesn't mean that the accuracy of all science is absolute and beyond question.

An assumption like that would be, well, unscientific.
