And to some degree it's true.

One neat thing about the Health industry, however, is that there are
some very bright folks in the open source area that can hold their own.

A good example is OsiriX, which is open source imaging on the Mac &
Iphone/touch. The apps themselves are interesting, but what is really
interesting are the add ons that users have developed.

While an iPhone is not the best platform for MRI related diagnostic
work, it's OK after that diagnosis, as is the 13" MacBook Pro. A
rumored Apple tablet would also be a screamer if the right hardware.

This type of user input is probably unique when compared to, say,
retailing or banking. It makes the medical field more exciting and
keeps companies like MS from having a lock on the industry.
