man you are a socialist..
thanks for finally confirming it.

The entire point of a universal healthcare system is to allow everyone to take care of everyone else, not push values on each other. This doesnt mean the government cannot push campaigns to get people to stop smoking, drinking heavily, eating to much, etc.. etc.. Hell they could even offere incentives to people who choose to live healthy lifestyles and can prove it with results.

The next step would be to offer programs to help people curb eating, smoking, drinking, etc.. etc.

If you missed what obama said, he said we should streamline our care, make it more efficient and take away only the things that seem extravigant. Elective surgery should be paid for by the individual. A test should only be run as many times as a doctor deems it necessary. And doctors.. just like mechanics who only know how to part swap a problem away.. are held accountable for being inefficient.

Besides the above.. there is one section where i am torn, that would be fixing screw ups. How do we deal with malpractice? Where i work, if you sue us, your're basically sueing the government, so the chances of you winning are low. Partly the reason lawyers usually dont take the case. Plus the payout is mainly for the patient. I dont think this is the best of systems but its probably far better than each doctor having to mortgage their career just to stay in business.
