The software version of the "good old days"?
It seems to me that we are developing a software version of the
days on large companies delivering their own computers that
were highly proprietary. IBM had System 34s & 38s. NCR went
with the T8200, 8400, 8500, etc. DEC was popular in
universities as was Xerox. Burrows was also in there - believe
that they invented virtual memory. Lots of power for the time
and isolated in terms of proprietary environments.

Health IT is a prime target for isolated systems that don't
interact with each other at a detailed level. The only real
solution is to mandate that these systems be licensed (not
certified) and inter-operability be maintained in order to keep
the license.
