RE: Google Health faces its first test
Yesterday, the steam on this picked up. It made the Boston Globe and I caught it a few hours after his post. We have a coding issue here which involves mapping as well as how prior visits are coded.

For many years visits were coded and probably still are with a CPT code that will ensure payment from insurance companies and we all know how that game works to a degree, thus a patient ends up with a potential diagnosis that is not accurate.

Billing was done to get the visit covered, but later when analyzed the true picture is not what the numbers say. This not entirely a problem with Google Health but rather like he stated, garbage in and garbage out, so in essence the reason for this situation comes back again to money in many instances, getting the visit paid for by insurance.

It is interesting though how this all shakes out, just like a lot of things are doing today. Dave really had a first hand look at how his records were entered for sure, and perhaps there's a little work to be done here too, like everything else out there.

It is still a good idea to have a PHR, but now everyone goes back to work to refine and make the process better.
