Let them blow their R&D funds
I believe that the highest volume of patient data being sent to
doctors or hospitals will be "consumer" based with data being
sent/downloaded to a PC or Mac in the home.

There are simply too many devices, like glucose monitors, that
will provide the links to the home computer. The home
computers are simply too powerful to be ignored.

Designing testing and DME products that interact with a
patients computer and then to the doctor(s) opens up a far
greater market than limiting your product to those with
insurance or wealth to pay for it.

The best demonstration of that was the 17 year old high school
student who developed an iPhone app and pulled in over
$250,000 in a month or two.

Now think of how many people are obese in elementary school
and up, having Type 2 Diabetes, taking glucose tests using
meters that could deliver a 99? level app, or a $5 level app for
your computer or pocket computer, like the iPhone/touch.

While it may break their hearts to deliver quality apps to
patients at a very low price they need to look at the volume.
Wal-Mart is a pretty good example of what high volume can
mean for a company.
