What about patients?
Half of the value of patients having access to data, reports,
images, etc. is that they can have them available to medical practitioners/professionals.

I keep various information on my iPhone (ICE, Rx list,
Glucose Buddy) and more on my notebook - like all images
I've had over the past 3 years (when I learned about OsriX).

At some point in the future everything is also going to be
in the cloud - on me.com. A medical public file that any
doctor or ambulance medic can call up.

What I want is a movement towards makers of medical
devices that generate data to have a clear link to the EMR
open source programs. That can be a glucose meter, one
of the Home EKG units that are now available, blood
pressure devices that could very cheaply retain data and
send it to your PC or my Mac.

Get that basic level taken care of and the patient can be
the link to doctors or clinics that don't have EMR yet. We
can also save unnecessary trips to the doctor.
