The NPR piece I listened to didn't sound promising.
They spoke mostly with proprietary vendors. It was also said that only about 1% of doctors' offices currently use electronic records. If our tax dollars are going to support a proprietary vendor for any electronic record solution then that company should become a branch of the US Government and with all employees becoming Federal workers with the same pay scales as other Federal employees. The cost was another factor mentioned. It wasn't stated how the cost was measured. By the first quarter? First year? Five years? Ten? How much will it cost to not have a comprehensive electronic records system? How long have we been using computers? I think the concept has been thoroughly tested. If our health care records system remains in the paper ages then we will all pay.
