Medicare tends to keep costs down
Insurance companies don't seem to worry
as much as politicians when it comes to
health care costs. Doctors therefore
accept less for Medicare patients than
they do for private insurance patients.

The reason for this is that private
insurance companies can raise their
premiums (the equivalent of a tax)
anytime they want - and they can add a
bit of profit on that increase.

The public would not have accepted the
increases in taxes at a rate of premium
increases under Bush/Cheney. That
should be a clear indication that some
games were played during these past 7+
years.
